Excellent compact fire starter, like all FF ferrous rods they throw great sparks especially with the striker provided. Great store to deal with, I've shopped here quite a bit over the past year and had nothing but great service.

DESCRIPTION
The Hive Fire Starter™ is not your typical rounded Ferro Rod! The Hive is hexagonal with six flat sides. The flat sides have a larger surface area which results in more material being removed when striking, meaning larger showers of sparks! The Hive will make fast work of your fire lighting needs, here's why:
The Hive is available in two sizes: 3 and 8" lengths. Both lengths are extremely thick and allow for up to 20,000 strikes. All of our Ferro Rods are also manufactured using our Forest Fundamentals Ferrocenium™ blend. We tried and tested numerous Ferro Rod compositions till we had perfected the optimum balance between softness and durability. Our Ferro Rods throw down large showers of molten sparks, but we were also careful not to make the rods too soft to ensure longevity.
As all of our Ferro Rods are pretty large, we wanted to offer something a little. The 4" length Hive is perfect for fitting inside survival and fire kit tins. If you are looking for something even smaller, make sure to check out our Sidekick Necklaces!
We have chosen to use 550 'Survival' paracord for the lanyard. This cord includes materials including copper wire, fishing line, waxed jute, and parachute cord. These materials serve a multitude of purposes in the field, including repairing shoelaces, fishing, constructing snares, building shelters, and more.
The new Stealth Fire Strikers™ are also included. Made from heat-treated Stainless Steel the Stealth Fire Strikers™ include 4hex bits, a beveled straight-edged tinder scraper/prying tool, and also functions as a bottle opener, a pretty handy feature when sitting around a campfire! Excellent ferro rod great design,this is the 2nd one I've bought, they throw some excellent sparks.
I have always made my own however there is good and bad firesteels. I bought the Hive it's exceptional, flat sides are a game changer on every level, gives some much sparks, lighting a tender bundle so much easier than I've ever experienced. Elvis has exceptional customer care, any issues are sorted out quickly.
Absolutely fantastic product. I saw the review on Rob Evans YouTube channel and I was very impressed. I was at the bushcraft show on the 25th and saw that forest fundimental had a stand so I purchased one with out hesitation the same day carved myself a small feather stick and Bosh cought a nice hot spark and we have fire 🔥 so thank you Rob Evans for the review and thank you Forest Fundimental for a great product
It throws an excellent shower of sparks and easily lit a feather stick, it's quite a soft compound so no need to did in hard with a knife spine, the scraper supplied works really well on it.
The best ferro rod I've found. I love it! It's chunky construction makes it easy to use, particularly in younger hands. The sparks are huge which gets a fire started easily. Once fire restrictions are lifted, I'll be posting a video review on my Facebook page Wayfarers Outdoors.

Deze vuurstaal geeft makkelijk grote vonken zonder erg hard te duwen. Hij is groot en een beetje zwaar maar het gewicht meer dan waard.

Bought from the 2025 Bushcraft Show. I have used this a few times and it always gives a good shower of sparks that are hot, it is so good that my grand daughter (aged 10) was able to start a fire while I watched on, she was able to light the tinder she had collected and make a little fire. the tinder was good but not great, the ferro rod was very forgiving and produced great sparks.

The last thing my ex said to me before storming out of the house was that thicker & longer IS better & whilst I'd argue that's not always the case it's certainly true for Ferro rods. The 6" hive is much easier to hold than a shorter ferro rod & gives off a tonne of sparks igniting a tinder bundle with ease.
Have seen many firesteels on the market however this one caught my eye as its hexagonal shape means you have multiple sides to strike it from meaning you get the maximum amount of usage out of each rod. Simple but ingenious.

This Fire Steel / Ferro Rod is the best one I've purchased to date! It generates a HUGE shower of sparks! It's better than any of the other ones I own!!! It's a GREAT piece of kit!!!
Cool ferro rod hexagonal shape makes it easier to create sparks. The steel is a solid design good for scraping wood for tinder etc. Really cool Uk Bushcraft tool makers and shop. Will be back
Really large size but not so large as to put me off carrying it out with me. The hex design works extremely well and the rod creates large sparks easily.
It gives a great shower of sparks just like on the video..the secret to starting a good fire is to choose the correct tinder. These guys sell that as well
Love the large sizes. I struggle with my grip and the long rods make them very easy to use compared to other rods I have used. Thanks guys!

The hex is too powerful! the flat surfaces produce loads of sparks with almost no effort. Hopefully onto your stealth fire starter next ;)

Great fire starter and customer service. Fire starter throws down some serious sparks. Initially received the wrong one but Elvis was fast to sort it and send out a replacement first class. Highly recommend this company and products.
