All of our fire steels are made using our own Forest Fundamentals Ferrocerium™ blend. This blend has been developed entirely in-house. We don't sell stock ferro rods.

Over the course of a year, we tested numerous fire steel compositions, continually refining the make-up of the pyrophoric alloy until we achieved the optimal balance between softness and durability. We wanted a blend that was soft enough to easily produce large showers of hot sparks, while remaining hard enough to ensure longevity.

Our strikers have also been designed in-house and are manufactured from heat-treated steel. Along both sides of the striker, we've incorporated a slightly raised edge that helps dig into the fire steel, producing large showers of sparks with minimal effort.

The strikers are relatively large, making them easy to handle in cold weather or while wearing gloves. One end is straight with a bevelled edge, designed to make quick work of processing tinder shavings. Our strikers are also suitable for both right and left-handed users.
