Mess Tin Bags | 1000D Nylon Roll-Top Bags

At Forest Fundamentals, we’ve long used the British Amy 44 Pattern Mess Tin Bags. While these bags worked, they had a few drawbacks; mainly being a very tight fit and having a fiddly closing mechanism. So, we set out to improve the design, creating the FF Mess Tin Bags—solving the old problems and adding a few new useful features.

Designed for the Outdoors: Like all the FF bags, the mess tin bag has been developed specifically for outdoor use. A reinforced handle on the base makes it easy to pull out mess tins in cold conditions or while wearing gloves. Two sturdy D-rings also allow the bag to be clipped or hung around camp for quick access.

Easily Cleaned: It’s no secret that cooking over open fires gets cookware extremely ashy. We’ve added a polyurethane coating to the inside of the bags to ensure they are easily wipeable and to prevent any dirt from becoming embedded in the fabric.

Additional Storage: While mess tins offer ample capacity, it’s always handy to have extra space—especially when the tins are packed with food. The large external pocket, secured with a velcro closing is designed for anything that doesn’t fit inside the tins. Together, the mess tin and the bag’s external pocket provide enough room to carry all water and cooking essentials.

Roll-Top Closure: Simple and secure, the roll-top design adjusts to fit different sizes of mess tins. Just roll and clip to keep everything tightly packed inside the bag.

Fits a Range of Sizes: These bags are built to accommodate various sized mess tin, including standard British Army tins and Trangia mess tins. They’re also roomy enough to hold two nested tins.

Durable Materials: We make the bags from 1000D Cordura Nylon. The bags are incredibly tough and highly water-resistant. Even without mess tins, they serve as a reliable roll-top bag—perfect for storing essentials like spare clothing, food, snacks, or cooking gear.

Lightweight Materials: 1000D offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, meaning the bags are tough without adding unnecessary weight to your pack.
