Our Experience Using the Nesting System in the Field
The Nesting System has no fixed setup. What you carry largely depends on personal preference, trip style and duration.
That said, there are a few pieces of gear we almost always carry, whether we're spending an afternoon in the woods or a few days hiking in the mountains. After using the Nesting System for some time, we've also picked up a few tips and tricks that can help you get the most from it.

Comparing Different Cup, Bottle, and Pot Combinations
We've found that carrying a 750 ml Titanium Cup, plus a nested 32 oz plastic bottle, is our preferred combination for the following reasons:
The 750 ml cup covers all of our boiling needs, requiring just 2–4 boils for a full day's water supply for one person.
Compared with stainless steel, the plastic bottle weighs significantly less.
We use the 750 ml Titanium Cup for all of our cooking and eating, as well as our morning coffee, removing the need to carry a separate plate, bowl or mug.
That said, this combination does have a few drawbacks:
If you're boiling water for multiple people, a metal bottle, such as the 32 oz Stainless Steel Nalgene, may be preferable.
It can also be frustrating having to clean porridge out of your 750 ml cup before making coffee. For this reason, we sometimes carry an additional 300 ml cup, nested on top of the bottle. The upgraded Stove Bag will also accommodate this additional cup.
If you're cooking for larger groups, carrying a larger pot is advisable. We sometimes carry a Billy Can with the entire stove system nested inside, which is a great way to increase cooking capacity while keeping bulk to a minimum.
Keeping the System Organised
We all know that staying organised in the outdoors is essential. Losing gear can be dangerous, but even rummaging around for it in the freezing cold is frustrating enough!
Whether heading into the woods for an afternoon or setting out on a multi-day trip, there are a few essential items we always pack into the Nesting System.
In the Zipped Pouch, stored in the base of the stove, we keep our fire-lighting kit, including a 3" Hive Ferro Rod, 2 × Stealth Wicks, Artisan Mini Mat, and a few backup solid-fuel tablets.
One of the most useful items we always carry is a bandanna, stored inside the cup. It helps prevent the system from rattling while also doubling as a useful cloth for cooking, cleaning and wiping away ash after using wood fuel.
Inside the Upgraded Stove Bag's Front Pocket:
We keep our water and drinks kit here, including electrolyte tablets, water purification tablets, Millbank Bag, tea and coffee.
We also pack a small cleaning kit, usually a scouring pad and cotton cloth or bandanna, kept together in a zip-lock bag.
Outside the Upgraded Stove Bag:
If we're using an alcohol burner, we'll carry a 200 ml Fuel Bottle on the outside of the bag. Alternatively, one of our Gas Conversion Kits can be tucked neatly into a side pocket.
We'll also commonly tuck a spork or LifeStraw down the outside of the bag for quick and easy access.

Useful Info: Nesting Cups, Bottles, and Pots
The stove is designed to nest with standard-size 750 ml cups, with the cross supports slotted down the sides of the stove.
Please see the section above for more information on why we chose the 750 ml size.
The Nesting Stove will work with all brands of standard-size 750 ml cups, including those from Snow Peak, TOAKS, MSR, and Vargo. The stove will also accommodate 750 ml cups with bail handles.
The diameter of a standard 750 ml cup is approximately 95 mm (3.74").
When nested with the stove, a 4–5 mm gap is maintained around the edge of the cup to allow for slight variations in cup dimensions.
The 750 ml cup size also nests perfectly with various 32 oz bottles, including Nalgene, Pathfinder, Stanley Adventure Series, and the Grayl GeoPress.
Any cup with a diameter smaller than 104 mm will nest inside the stove. Any rattling can easily be prevented by packing gear around the cup or wrapping it in a bandanna.
Useful Info: Storage in the Stove's Base
The stove's base is the perfect place to store small essentials, such as a fire kit and an alcohol burner.
Our is designed to keep these items together and protect them from ash.
This compartment is also designed to store the , , , and .
The removable ash-pan plate keeps everything securely in place.
The available space depends on what gear you pack inside. Here are some useful dimensions:
- Total height of the solid fuel basin: 4 mm (0.15")
- Total height of the griddle plates: 1 mm (0.04")
- Total height of the Artisan Fire Mats (Mini): 1 mm (0.04")
Please note: Not all alcohol burners will fit inside the stove's base, including Trangia burners. Both our will fit. Small items can also be stored inside our burners.
Useful Info: General Stove Dimensions
The full nesting system is designed to provide enough storage space to hold all the fire, cooking, and water gear needed for one person.
Since much of this gear is frequently used on the trail, often several times a day, we made sure the system remains compact enough to fit into rucksack side pockets or be easily strapped to the exterior of your pack, rather than taking up space in the bag's main compartment.
This keeps your gear readily accessible without the need to rummage through your pack.
However, we intentionally avoided making the stove too compact, ensuring it remains a fully functional wood stove that accommodates wood of various sizes, delivers ample heat, and provides a stable platform for cooking and boiling larger quantities of water.

We've designed the stove to be as versatile as possible, accommodating a wide range of cups and bottles.
Ultimately, it comes down to your preferred gear and whether it fits within the stove's dimensions.
The stoves are designed to nest with standard 750ml cups, including those with bail handles.
Most 750ml cups are standard sizes. Cups from brands like TOAKS, Snow Peak, and MSR will fit within the stove system.
Cups smaller than 750ml will generally fit, though they may leave extra space around the edges.
The extra space is great for storing small essentials like sporks or ferro rods, though some rattling may occur. Wrapping a bandana around the cup will fix any rattling issues.
Most 32oz bottles, including Nalgenes, Pathfinder Bottles, and the Stanley Adventure Series, are designed to nest perfectly with a standard 750ml cup. Grayl bottles also nest well, though there is a bit of extra space around the edges.

Most likely, yes — the stoves are designed to accommodate Trangia alcohol burners and other common sizes of alcohol stoves. If you're unsure whether your burner will fit the stove, feel free to reach out and we'll be happy to check the dimensions for you. The stove also comes with detailed instructions on how to accommodate burners of different sizes.
Most alcohol burners will work inside the stove; however, Trangia and other common titanium models won't fit inside the storage compartment at the base. Only Forest Fundamentals Alcohol Tins are specifically designed to fit this space.
Non-FF alcohol burners can still be stored inside the 750ml cup for transport, ensuring they remain part of your nesting system without the need for separate storage.
The stove is specifically designed to accommodate wood fuel, solid fuel tabs (such as hexamine, Esbit, and similar alternatives), and open-flame methylated spirit stoves.
All necessary components for using these fuel types are included as standard, with no additional add-ons required.
The stove includes a solid fuel tray for burning solid fuel tabs and cross beams for supporting alcohol burners.
The stoves can also accept small gas burners — full instructions are included on how to do this.
To keep costs down, a windshield is not included as part of the stove. However, we are currently designing FF windshields, which we hope to make available in the coming months.
In most cases, a windshield isn't needed when using wood, solid fuel, or alcohol burners, as the stove is designed to offer ample wind protection for these fuel types.
Top Tip: In windy conditions, a simple and cost-effective way to enhance wind protection for alcohol burners and solid fuel tabs is to line the inside of the stove with tin foil. When not in use, the tin foil can be neatly wrapped and stored around the edges of the stove.
Yes, the stove includes a cotton drawstring bag as standard. This bag is designed to be spacious enough to accommodate the entire nesting system, including bottles and cups, which is why it is extra long.
There are also options to upgrade to our Cordura carrying bag. This bag is intended to provide extra storage space for any fire, cook, or water gear that doesn't fit inside the nesting system.
It's perfect for storing small essentials like sporks, cooking utensils, a Millbank bag, and a Lifestraw, to name a few examples.
The stoves are covered with a 10-year warranty that guarantees protection against defects in workmanship and materials. If you encounter any issues with the stoves, feel free to reach out to us — we're happy to help.

The stove is designed for pots of different sizes. For pots that are narrower than the stove's diameter, tent pegs or cross beams can be used to create stable support at different heights, depending on the fuel type being used.
For pots larger than the stove's diameter, they can rest directly on top of the stove, with the cross beams providing additional stability if needed. The three-leg design ensures a secure and balanced setup, even when using heavier or oversized cookware.
Creating a fire-safe stove and adhering to the 'leave no trace' philosophy was a top priority in the design process.
We've incorporated an ash pan to capture all embers and ash produced by the stove. The ash pan is slightly elevated to prevent heat damage to the ground.
The main feeding port of the stove is intentionally slightly raised. During testing, we found that a lower opening allowed burning wood to spill out, increasing the risk of fire outside the stove.
As a multi-fuel stove, it provides versatility to comply with different fire regulations and restrictions.
Depending on the environment, you can adapt the fuel source to accommodate bans on open fires or alcohol stoves.
Currently, production of the stoves takes place overseas due to high minimum order quantities in the UK.
However, all assembly is completed in the UK. The Sheffield-based metal fabricators require a minimum starting order of 1,000 units.
Once we reach this production scale, we fully intend to move manufacturing to the United Kingdom.
