Over the years, we've developed several types of fire-lighting tinders — each designed to make
lighting a fire in the field as efficient and dependable as possible.

When creating a new tinder, we focus on three core objectives: maximum burn time,
easy ignition with a ferro rod, and strong resistance to the elements.

Below is a full breakdown of all our fire-lighting tinders.

WAX-INFUSED FIRE PLUG TINS

The ultimate all-weather fire starter, these plugs are built to get a fire started in all weather conditions. Slow-burning, highly water-resistant, and extremely reliable, they'll ignite from a ferro rod or match — even after being fully submerged.

To use, simply fluff up one end with your Stealth Fire Striker™ or knife, then throw down some sparks on the "fluffed" end. They'll catch from even the smallest spark.

Perfect for multi-day hikes and expeditions, each plug burns for around 6 minutes, producing a long, hot flame capable of lighting damp or wet kindling.

To conserve tinder in the field, you can split each plug in half and still have more than enough burn time to get your fire going.

MAYA DUST TINDER TINS

Made from 100% natural UK-sourced fatwood, our Maya Dust shavings are a clean, chemical-free tinder ideal for campfires, cooking, and BBQs. Infused with wax for added water resistance, they burn hot and long — easily igniting damp or even wet kindling.

Each sleek aluminium sliding-lid tin contains enough tinder for multiple fires and is embossed with our signature Forest Fundamentals logo. As always, we make sure our products look as good as they perform.

Using Maya Dust is simple: create a small pile of shavings on a piece of wood, bark, or one of our tinder mats for insulation, then throw down some sparks. We always recommend practicing with natural tinders so your skills are ready when it counts.

STEALTH REFILL PACKS

These paraffin-wax infused wicks are designed as replacements for our Stealth Fire Starters, but they're also excellent all-round tinder for ferro rods, lighters, and other ignition sources. Each pack includes 3 lengths of 63.5cm (25"), giving you a total of 190.5cm (75") of reliable, UK-made tinder that performs consistently in all weather conditions.

Only 2cm of wick is needed to get a fire going, giving you enough tinder for up to 100 fires. Each wick burns for 40–60 minutes, offering long, steady heat equivalent to several lighters. Thanks to the infused wax, they stay lit in strong winds, can ignite after being soaked, and can be easily positioned under stoves or tinder bundles for precise flame control.

To use, simply twist and press your Stealth Fire Striker™ or knife against the end of the wick to fluff it up, increasing surface area for easier ignition. Then, throw down some sparks. Pack contains wicks only — Stealth Fire Starter not included.
